It is without doubt that the summer months are the ideal time to light up the BBQ and party with the family and friends. However the perfect BBQ does not come easily; when having a BBQ, there are many factors which will ensure that your party is remembered for the amazing barbequed food that was on offer. Never forget to clean your grill! If you can clean the oven and grill in your kitchen, you have no excuse to neglect the BBQ! Lets put it this way, the ever so tasty Buffalo wings you had cooked the previous week were mouth-watering, however you do not want to be tasting this with the ham burgers you are about to cook, do you? No? Well, get cleaning (once it has cooled down, of course!)

Always be aware of the differences between marinating your meat and adding sauces; marinating meat before cooking it on the BBQ will certainly add flavour to your food. However, covering the meat with a variation of different sauces will dry out the meat, eventually causing it to burn. Sauces are generally made with certain ingredients which have a tendency to burn, rather than cook; an alternative would be to season the meat with herbs and spices, this will add far more taste to your food than sauces… with no burnt bits! However, for those of you who simply cannot resist your BBQ sauce, to avoid damaging your grill and ruining your meal, only add sauces in the last minutes of cooking the meat.

We all love a good old BBQ; therefore you will want to do whatever it takes to avoid ruining this moment; always remember to reduce the heat while cooking as this will allow meats to cook right through, locking in juices at the same time so the meat is flavoursome and tender.

Always remember NOT to place cooked meat back on the same dish it was on before grilling as it would have been raw; this will reduce the risk of spreading unwanted germs and illnesses.
